Discrepancy

[edit]

I've noticed a discrepancy between length dimensions. In the "General Characteristics" the length is 185 feet, but in the 3 View Line Drawing of the XB-70, the length is shown as 193.4 feet. I don't know if it's an older estimate, or incorrect information or something else. idk. thx! Cheers! <3 Taffy boeing b 17 (talk) 17:14, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Most likely the pitot tube not being counted in the numbers. The drawing gives two lengths, tip of pitot tube to rear tips of vertical stabs (longest length) at 193.4 ft. The next length given is fuselage nose to jet pipes at 179.1 ft. The specs give 185 ft which is 8 ft shorter than the longest dimension, 8 ft is a reasonable size for the pitot tube.
Fuselage stations sometimes start at 'O' as the datum at the fuselage nose tip, sometimes start at the pitot tube or another length datum (fuselage former etc), depends on the manufacturer. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 18:10, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
